In preparation for back to school, the ECFH Group recently hosted its seventh annual Student Success Workshop. The one day workshop facilitated by the Celestial Self Development Center, is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to keep them motivated and inspired to continue to excel in their studies. This year’s theme was, “Born to soar, Rising above Challenges.”
According to company officials, ECFH has been granting scholarships every year to the children of its employees and shareholders. Senior Human Resource Manager of ECFH, Victor Poyotte, in his remarks said that the company sees this activity as a critical contribution to the development of our nation’s youth and to the development of the nation overall. He further explained that the workshop is intended to celebrate the Group’s successful scholarship holders and to motivate students, particularly those entering Secondary School for the first time.
According to Managing Director of Celestial, Thecla Deterville, the session entailed lessons on life skills, how to approach challenges, working as part of a team, problem solving, identifying strengths and weaknesses and decision making. “We try to make it as interesting and interactive at possible. Students work in groups, in a practical hands on format, and are given exercises to do which serve as a means of skills transfer,” she said.
Immediately following the workshop, was a certificate presentation ceremony for the participants with special recognition for the nine new 2015 ECFH scholarship winners, and special prizes for the two top performers in the 2014/2015 academic year.
For the past twenty one (21) years, ECFH has contributed over $500,000 to the scholarship programme which is open to the children of staff and shareholders of the Group. The workshop, which is hosted annually at the ECFH Financial Centre at Bridge Street, forms part of the Group’s overall Corporate Social Responsibility mandate which focuses heavily on youth development.
