ECFH Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Efforts

The ECFH Group, through its subsidiaries Bank of Saint Lucia (BOSL) and EC Global Insurance, continues to add muscle to the fight against breast cancer in St. Lucia. The Group has undertaken a number of initiatives to create greater awareness of the pervasiveness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection and diagnosis.

For the second consecutive year, ECFH has embarked on its ‘Pink Can’ fundraising drive in aid of the St. Lucia Cancer Society. The signature pink cans are located at BOSL Branches islandwide, and at EC Global’s Bridge Street and Rodney Bay offices.

Customers can deposit their contributions in these cans, which will be forwarded to the Cancer Society, to assist in the ongoing breast cancer awareness efforts. ECFH will also contribute to the awareness efforts with the distribution of its signature Pink Key Purses.

BOSL has also partnered with Consolidated Foods Limited and the support group Faces of Cancer for the 2013 Yoplait Walk for Cancer. This year, the company’s staff will play a major role in the walk, as both participants and volunteers at the water stops along the route.

EC Global is lending its support to the Faces of Cancer Health Fair slated for Saturday October 26 at the Castries Town Hall. EC Global and BOSL will help spread awareness of breast cancer among its customers and the general public via email blast and via the Groups Facebook pages.

Senior Manager – Marketing & Corporate Communications, Maria Fowell explained that many families have been impacted in some way by cancer. She said the Group’s emphasis on awareness is based on the fact that in most, if not all cases, early detection improves chances of recovery and remission.

Fowell said: “More than 65% of our staff are women, many of whom fall within the average testing age range. The awareness efforts are just as important for our men, because not only could their mothers, sisters, wives and daughters be affected, but also that cases of Breast Cancer have also been recorded in men. So this is something that we must all be aware of.”

In May of this year, Bank of Saint Lucia sponsored the 6th Edition of the Caribbean Association of Oncology & Hematology (CAOH) Conference which was held in St. Lucia. The 3-day Conference brought together over 300 leading medical practitioners and experts in the field of Cancer Research and Treatment from the Caribbean, Europe and the Americas.
