ECFH says YES to YEF

The East Caribbean Financial Holding Company (ECFH) has pledged its continued support of the 5th annual Youth Environment Forum to be held in St. Lucia from July 22 – 26.

Youth Environment Forum (YEF) is an annual event organized by the Saint Lucia National Trust, which has over the last 4 years, engaged close to 300 young persons’ ages 7 to 18 in activities designed to raise their consciousness of and appreciation for the environment.

On Monday July 8th 2013, ECFH signed a 3-year Covenant with the Saint Lucia National Trust in support of YEF.

The objective of the forum is to empower young people to become environmental and heritage conservation advocates in their homes, schools and communities. This objective is in keeping with one of the major pillars of the ECFH’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy which focuses on youth development.

ECFH’s passion for the environment was further demonstrated by the launch of its Greedy for Green programme a few years ago. Greedy for Green involves the adoption of environmentally-friendly practices across the Group’s subsidiaries, support for external projects that promote environmental conservation and awareness as well as influence responsible environmental practices and behaviours.

This year’s YEF will be hosted under the UN World Environment Day Theme: “Think. Eat. Save” The Forum will be hosted in the north and south of the island simultaneously.

In the coming days, ECFH’s new Youth Environment Programme which targets secondary school students across the island will be unveiled. It will challenge participants to find solutions to some of the environmental challenges which we face as a nation.

Assistant Manager for Corporate Communications at ECFH Omari Frederick said: “As St. Lucians, and as conscientious human beings, it is important for all of us to raise the awareness of our food print and the associated impact on our economy and more importantly the environment. We look forward to participating in the forum this year and eagerly anticipate the crowning of more Youth Environmental advocates.”
