The stage is set for the St. Lucia leg of the Norceca (North, Central and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation) 2012 Beach Volleyball Tour. Local organisers, the St. Lucia Volleyball Association, received a major boost from the East Caribbean Financial Holding Company Ltd. ECFH signed on as presenting sponsor of the event scheduled for October 26th – 28th. Seventeen men’s teams and sixteen women’s teams from across the North and Central American, and Caribbean Regions will participate in 3 days of competition – hailing from Latin America, Canada, the United States, the US Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago and host country St. Lucia.
ECFH’s commitment to the 2012 Beach Tour not only demonstrates its commitment to youth development through sport, but also its commitment to an even broader mandate – the national development of St. Lucia through sports tourism. Omari Frederick, Assistant Manager Corporate Communications – ECFH indicated that, “St Lucia has proven over the years that it is an ideal destination for honeymooners, and this can be extended for sporting athletes, enthusiasts and fans through sports tourism. Sports Tourism accounts for over $600 billion globally, and is a major tool for revenue generation, job creation and destination development. The potential for economic growth in St. Lucia is great, and ECFH is a company committed to national development.”
A cheque presentation ceremony was held at the site of the 2012 Beach Volleyball Tour - Pigeon Island – with officials from ECFH, Norceca and the St. Lucia Volleyball Association present. NORCECA representatives expressed confidence in the St. Lucia Volleyball Association and host country St. Lucia, for the hosting of this leg of the beach volleyball circuit.
