2013 Calendar Candidates
DARCEL FREDERICK Darcel Frederick joined Les Enfants Dance Troupe at age 9, and was a founding member of St Lucia Dance Theatre Company in 2000. She has had intensive training at Edna Manley School of Dance in Jamaica, the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre in New York and at Jacob's Pillow in Massachusetts. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Kinesiology at York University in 2007. She is presently living her dream as a cast member of Disney's Lion King - in London - a dream she pursued from the age of 15 with passion and purpose. |

TOUSSAINT GERVAIS At age 12, Toussaint Gervais attained a CXC Distinction in Mathematics - a first for St Lucia and the Caribbean. A Form 4 student of the Seventh-day Adventist Academy, Toussaint was home-schooled by his mom up to age 11. His most memorable experience to date was a visit to the Kennedy Space Centre in 2006. Toussaint hopes to become an astronaut and venture into Space someday. He enjoys swimming, chess, music, art, IT and origami. |

KAELA GERALD Kaela Gerald graduated from St Joseph's Convent in 2009. At SALCC, she won awards for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. She was named Island Scholar in 2011. Kaela is currently attending Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) where she is pursuing a BSc in Biomedical Engineering. She won the 2012 NSBE Award for Academic Excellence in Biomedical Engineering. She is inspired by Martin Luther King. |

NECIAH DORH Neciah Dorh graduated from St Mary's College in 2005 as Top Science Student and went on to score A's in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics at A Level. He was the Island Scholar in 2007. Neciah left St Lucia in 2009 to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering degree at the University of Bristol. He graduated with first class honours in 2012. His research project was on developing wireless home patient monitoring. Neciah is currently pursuing a PhD. He hopes to conduct research in optical antennas using solar energy. |

TONYA ATKINS 12-Year old Tonya Atkins is one of the top five performing students in the 2012 Common Entrance Exams. She attained an average of 93.33%. Tonya is currently in Form 1 at the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, Campus A. She previously attended Pierrot Combined where she was awarded for Contribution to School Life. Tonya enjoys singing, dancing and socializing. |

JONAS LANDWEHR Jonas Landwehr topped the 2012 Common Entrance Exams with an average of 95%. He was a student of Bonne Terre Prep. He is now in Form 1 at St Mary's College. Jonas is 12. He is also a member of 2010 National Swim Team for the OECS Championship. He is currently a member of the St Mary's College under 16 basketball team. Jonas enjoys fishing, playing the piano, swimming, playing basketball and American football. His career choices are medicine or architecture. |

SHAN LUCIEN Shan Lucien has been a singing sensation since age 6 when she became the youngest student to obtain a Merit for Grade 1 ABRSM Voice Exams. At 13, Shan attained a Distinction for Grade 4 Theory and a Merit in her Grade 5 ABRSM Piano Exam. She is currently preparing for her Grade 5 Voice Exam. Shan attends the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School Campus B. She enjoys swimming, singing, composing, reading and dancing. |

MELODY FEVRIER Her parents named her Melody. As audacious as that sounds, they probably knew their daughter would take to music like a fish takes to water. She earned a distinction in ABRSM Grade 4 Exams in 2010 and was awarded the St Lucia School of Music ECFH Young Mentors Scholarship in July 2012 as a teaching assistant for the Marchand Youth Orchestra. Melody is a member of the St Lucia School of Music Symphony Orchestra. At 14, Melody has her mind set on becoming a virtuoso violinist. |

JEANELLE SCHEPER Jeanelle Scheper graduated form St Joseph's Convent in 2010 with 8 CXC distinctions. However, it's her athletic prowess that's propelling her to new heights as a promising high jumper who is Olympic bound. Currently attending the University of South Carolina, Jeanelle copped the prestigious MVP award on the USC 2012 Track and Field Team. She was in 8th place at the World Junior championships in Athletics (high jump) 2012 and 1st place at the Central American and Caribbean Junior Championship in high jump for under-20 girls. Jeanelle recorded 3rd place in the high jump at CARIFTA games 3 years in a row (2010, 2011, 2012) and 3rd in the long jump for 2010. She is the University of South Carolina Women's High Jump record holder at 6 feet 1 inch (1.85 metres). On the academic side, she has made the honour roll at USC every semester for 3 semesters with a 3.0 gpa and up. Jeanelle's goal is to represent St Lucia at the Olympic Games in Rio Brazil in 2016. |

TARYK GABRIEL Taryk Gabriel is creating a buzz among local cricket pundits who see him as a future West Indies Cricketer. This National under-19 cricketer has been racking up the awards and keeping scorers busy. Taryk is a product of the United Insurance Under-19 Tournament. He plays for Corinth Secondary. He was the leading scorer at the end of the 2011-12 Coca Cola Mindoo Philip Division I Cricket Tournament. Should Taryk fulfill his dream he would have followed in the footsteps of other local cricketers, to make it to the international stage,including current West Indies Captain Darren Sammy and opening Batsman Johnson Charles. |

JAVED SAMUEL Javed Samuel is a science and mathematics prodigy whose achievements belie his humble beginning in the quiet community of Augier in Vieux Fort. The first sparks of his brilliance were seen by his teachers at Augier Combined and then Vieux Fort Comprehensive. He attended MIT, a leading science and engineering university in the USA. Javed completed his Masters in Applied Mathematics at Oxford in the UK. Javed Served as a Senior Software Engineer at Oracle (a leader in database software) in the database security group. He is currently a Senior Security Consultant focusing on web and mobile application security at iSEC Partners, a premier computer security consulting firm. At home in St Lucia he is contributing towards improving Mathematics problem solving skills. He serves as Assistant Chief Examiner for CSEC Additional Mathematics and organizes an annual Mathematics Problem Solving Competition at VFCSS. |

TEIGE LA BORDE Teige La Borde is a young entrepreneur on a mission. She is the owner of Azuk Creative Services where she also serves as designer and business manager. In short, she is a 'hand-on' person with an eye for detail and a thirst for success. Azuk is making quite a name for itself with her unique designs for a varied mix of events and functions which range from weddings, to cocktails, to interior decor. This former wedding planner and production assistant is the Founder of Entrepreneural Social Media Group 'Got Guts' and winner of two of the most prestigious awards at the Caribbean Youth Entrepreneurship Conference which took place in St Vincent recently. Ms La Borde was judged the Most Entrepreneural and Best Young Entrepreneur. |

DARJ ALFRED Darj Alfred is St Lucia's Top Performing Student at CXC in 2012 with 13 Distinctions. He is a product of St Mary's College. He is currently pursuing studies at the Sirt Arthur Lewis Community College. At age 17, Darj is eyeing career choices as an LA Lakers forward, a Medical Doctor, a Physicist or a Biochemist. Whichever one he chooses, one thing's for certain...he will be a success. |

SU ANN ROBYN CHARLERY A past student of St Joseph's Convent who showed great promise in the sciences, Su Ann Charlery is the first St Lucian to attend Lincoln University. She then moved on to the University of Florida where she completed a Masters in Public Health with honors. Su Ann was selected to present her Caribbean HIV Research Findings at the International AIDS Conference held in Washington DC in July of 2012. She is also the recipient of the prestigious award from the American Public Health Association (APHA). Su Ann is very passionate about the issue of sexual risk as it relates to gendered power, which is critical in St Lucian society, given the increasing incidence of sexual violence within the past few years. Su Ann is currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of Georgia. Her dissertation is focsed on exploring St Lucian women's perceptions of their risk for HIV and their perceptions of power in sexual relationships. |

TRENT ST ROSE Trent St Rose is currently pursuing a BSc in Applied Mathematics at McGill University, Canada. He also runs a Mathematics 'Help Desk' on Campus, which provides assistance to students who have difficulty with Mathematics. Trent graduated as SMC Student of the Year in 2008 with 13 CXC distinctions, one of which he obtained in Form 2. At SALCC, he earned 5 distinctions (A's) in his Cambridge A-Level Exams. He was also awarded for Highest Academic Achievement in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Trent was the Island Scholar in 2010. He is an avide sportsman, having the award for sprint at SMC in 2008. Trent played on the McGill team in the 2011 Intramural Soccer Championship. He also enjoys playing tennis. |

MARCELLUS CAZAUBON Marcellus Cazaubon came to national prominence in the annual Youth Parliament of 2009 to 2010. He served as Governor General in 2009, Prime Minister in the first sitting in 2010 and Leader of the Government Business in the Senate in 2010. He captured the National Youth Award in 2012. He is presently a Commonwealth Youth Ambassador for St Lucia - a role which has taken him to Youth Forums in India, Australia, Haiti and Trinidad. Marcellus is currently a teacher at Soufriere Comprehensive. He has a passion for public speaking and sees himself as a future politician. |
